1. The first state to bring banking in remote villages – Odisha
With the help of Self Help Groups (SHG’s), Odisha successfully made the banking transactions in remote villages. To implement this, the Odisha Government signed an agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI). Odisha Livelihood Mission became the main party to sign this agreement.
2.World’s largest corporate Masala bond starts trading on London Stock Exchange
London Stock Exchange welcomed the world’s largest corporate Masala bond. The landmark bond issuance from Housing Development Finance Corp (HDFC), one of India’s leading banking and financial services companies comes less than 12 months after HDFC’s INR 30 billion (USD 450 million) debt issuance in London, the first ever Indian corporate to list a Masala bond.
3. INLCU L51 commissioned into India Navy
Indian Navy inducts surveillance ship INLCU L51, the first of the eight ships of the Landing Craft Utility MK IV Class, was commissioned into the India Navy in Port Blair.
The commissioning of the ship adds a feather to the glorious chapter in the nation’s ‘Make in India’ initiatives and indigenisation efforts in the field of warship design and construction.
4. Kerala Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh Joined UDAY
Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) is a center’s power distributed company debt relief scheme. Recently the three states Kerala, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh have joined the scheme. With this, 26 states joined the scheme. The government estimates that Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura will gain net benefit of approximately Rs.4,178 crore, Rs.309 crore and Rs.810 crore respectively.
5. India take million-dollar prize for finishing No. 1
India have finished at the top of the ICC Test rankings for the second successive year after beating Australia 2-1 in the four-Test series. As a result of being No. 1 by the cut-off date of April 1, India will be presented with a cash award of $1 million by the ICC.
The ICC also announced that India offspinner R Ashwin will be awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for being the ICC Cricketer of the Year for 2016.
6. J&K govt approves smart city proposals
A committee of the Jammu and Kashmir government has approved the Smart City Proposals for the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar for submission to the Centre.
Considering the vulnerability of the cities to multiple hazards, the calamities like floods and earthquakes, risk preparedness and risk response have received special focus in the SCPs’ proposal.
7. Isro sends 4 teams to Antarctica
ISRO on March 29 joined the 36th scientific mission to Antarctica, organised by the National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research
